Click on the path to make that field editable. Now open Windows Explorer. Paste in the full path that you just copied: Highlight the name of that document that you had opened temporarily and delete it. Look for your file in there! This really saved my bacon when I made the rookie error of editing an attachment within an e-mail itself. I knew I saved it! I've found my lost work and life is better. Hi, this is great, and works for Office too.
A colleague did not save her work and with this instructions the hard work was recovered from oblivion Thank you! Saved my day and I learned a valuable lesson about saving files :. This saved me a day's work when I edited a file from an attachment and kept saving to the temp directory, but then the file didn't show up when I searched the whole C: for it. However, after I reboot, that folder gets deleted. And only if I open another attachment after the reboot will that folder get recreated.
My question is, what happens to those files after a reboot? It has to still be in a sector on my hard drive, but I can't find it with any data recovery programs. It contains attachments and other items that are caches created by and used with Outlook, some of them are user facing and some of them are not intended to be. However, due to the folder property and working mechanism, it is not recommended to save files in that folder.
Please use the Save as option to save a copy of the temp outlook file to another location like desktop to check if the issue persists. Meanwhile, I'd like to share a thread about how to find lost file in the Outlook temp folder, please check if it helps.
