Finn Hanberg Hanson Method. Cloud words: Hanson Bold. The show is being released to the public and my updates are a record of the progression. I have no control of where it goes from here. All I have been trying to do is create a place that will serve as the foundation for the show that will allow anyone to obtain a copy of it from Michael while at the same time minimizing as much as possible the attempts of people to profit off his show or these encodes.
I also really wanted people to promote the page in the hopes that more people would leave messages for Michael. I wanted him to see just how many people appreciated him while he was still alive and give him positive support at a terrible time for him. Some felt that slandering me was more important than that.
That is their loss and disgrace, not mine. In less than 2 years the entire series will have been released and posted which means the encodes will be "out there" and anyone can do whatever they want and there is not a single thing I can do about it.
That makes me a control freak? Anyone is free to host these files, this is how Michael wants his show to be remembered. All I can hope is that they use them to highlight the genius of my friend and spread a bit of the love Michael left behind by directing people here so they too can get the show directly from him. We all should be ecstatic about it and celebrate the life and memory of Michael Hanson rather than focusing on how horrible of a human being I am.
The individual who is now calling themselves MindWebs also really needs to understand what a c 3 is before they embarrass themselves again with such accusations of profit. It does provide insight into how they are trying to justify their past actions with the show and deflect with pseudo-reality and false comparisons.
Also, I have not been actually employed by WMSE since started and the pay I earned then was for my engineering work. The other station we considered the release on was WORT in Madison, but both are community radio stations that Michael supported.
Michael would not allow anyone involved in this to profit off of the show and great lengths were taken to minimize the ability to profit off the show. The lame insinuations of it not only are again disrespectful to Michael and everyone involved in this release, but are ludicrous considering what is actually being done and who the charge is coming from.
To think that the review left was all triggered by the simple request to reference their source or put differently, to tell the truth. I have the privilege of being able to say Michael Hanson was a friend of mine and listening to what we created is something no one can ever take away from me or HIM ever again. We will all miss him. Thank you for all your hard work to make Mindwebs live on. I spent many hours trying to edit the old radio recording to make them listenable. I am glad to hear the original recordings.
I wish more radio stations would produce more fiction productions, but it is rare today. Reviewer: Tonimaz - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - November 12, Subject: Coincidence Hi there i just need to tell you how i am enjoying the stories, and Michaels voice is so lovely in the way he tells them.
I came across the site mid September and am listening to a story every night now up to no 51 I realised that I found the site when Michael went on to the next world, so I say thank you to him for bringing me here. All the best to his family and keep up the good work Toni. Reviewer: newdickmorris - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - November 1, Subject: Still sad about the recent news Some random thoughts: - I really enjoyed hearing Fredric Brown's "The Answer" in the recent three part episode.
It reminds me of that famous story by Isaac Asimov, but it turns out that this one actually preceded it by a couple of years. My worn out old ears, on the other hand Turns out he wrote a ton of entertaining short stories.
Thank you Mr. Hanson for introducing Mr. Sheckley to me. It's kind of obscure but it's awesome. And finally - thanks for sharing the tribute episode. I'll try to give it a listen tomight. Reviewer: Anonymous - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - October 23, Subject: Makes my working day last half as long Recently got recommended Mindwebs after becoming obsessed with collecting anthologies of short stories in print, ebook, and audio format , and wish I'd discovered this collection sooner.
I started listening with some apprehension, as I had recently attempted to get into some Librivox recordings, and quickly gotten sick of the varied quality and the monotonous, repetitive intro regarding the copyright details. Very quickly found myself sucked into listening story after story, and before I knew it, 5PM had rolled around and I was wondering where the time had gone. Of the ones I have listened to so far, I would highly recommend the very first one, The Carcinoma Angels, and Descending, and very much looking forward to devouring the rest of this collection.
A great collection of short stories, read by a cast with wonderful voices, and the quality is better than some professional audiobooks I've had the mis fortune of listening to. Reviewer: MarkTime42 - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - September 21, Subject: Thank You For Preserving Mindwebs I got to hear a few Mindwebs episodes in the late s, as my dad had moved from Chicago to Milwaukee and would sometimes record and send random programs from the public radio stations up there.
Cool to hear those again, and all the others! Reviewer: Marlboro81 - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - September 21, Subject: Loss of a Legend Terrible news. Your contributions to radio and sci-fi will live forever thanks to sites like I.
Thank you for introducing me to so many wonderful stories. And thank you Darkman for letting us know about this and for all the work you've done preserving and sharing these shows. It sounds like it was only available out of a Madison, WI station in the 70ss. Streaming that first episode to my bedroom Pacific time I was thoroughly captivated by the story selection and Michael's classic delivery.
I couldn't wait to hear these every week and started recording them on my computer to be able to listen to them at future dates. Getting completely new episodes was just the icing on the cake as these were also fantastic.
Thanks to WMSE for continuing to broadcast this excellent series over the airwaves and the net. Thank you Darkman for exposing a new generation I'm not that young to these excellent creations and for keeping Michael's legacy alive and kicking.
You should be commended for your effort! And thank you to Michael for your amazing work, creativity, talent, and taste I also love the background jazz selections. May your work live on into the distant future. Rest in Peace.
Hanson My condolences to the family. I continue to be interested in the fine work he has done. I appreciate your effort in helping getting episodes out to be enjoyed by those who loved his story telling ability.
He shall be missed. God bless you all. Reviewer: radiotech - favorite - May 12, Subject: Mindwebs Special May 12 and others Be aware that they often have other content on the uploads and the production often cuts off before the end! There are duplicates there, certainly. Reviewer: G Lud - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - October 29, Subject: Fantastic Memories This series that our whole family listened too during the 80's at a WI lake home was the perfect way to enchant young children and keep them from the BOOB tube.
It was always remarkable how the kids and adults would pay attention A perfect way to end an exhausting day by being quiet listening to these strange tales Reviewer: RadioDude - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - June 23, Subject: Thank you! When I first started listening to these episodes three years ago, I never would have thought that there would be new episodes.
Not only do we have new episodes, but they fit seamlessly with the original. I just want to say a huge thank you to Mike Hanson and Darkman for making this happen. My family has listened to every episode and look forward to the new episodes. Reviewer: Mr Filow - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - February 14, Subject: Thank you Michael, I didn't grow up listening to Mindwebs; I'm a late adopter.
I didn't want to see these shows filling a garbage dump along with so many other shows and so I found a way to make the money to buy the reels. I think I made the right choice in saving the Mindwebs reels, especially when I see that, in a small way, that action led to something even better. Thank you for bringing this show to the OTR community in such good quality. Thank you, BoxCarWillie. Reviewer: Radar - favorite favorite favorite favorite - February 4, Subject: Thank you To Michael Hanson and Darkman Thank you to both of you for bringing this series back to life.
I never had the opportunity to hear these when they were first aired but I'm sure interested in hearing them the 2nd time around.
I have been a 'member' at the archive for over 9 years, just to get the newsletter email. I have never once commented. Until now. I receive a small local variety newspaper which ran a blurb about mindweb which reminded me of the show and brought me here. After searching for 'mindwebs' I've seen your writings and have to say I disapprove. Even the tone in your page is full of snark, control issues, and general nastiness..
Coming from near Madison with a full grown openly gay daughter in the Military I find your homophobic slurs beyond the pale. To quote you "As it stands, I would rather you pursue auto-erotic asphyxiation with your fishnets on the bathroom door knob" Add to that your overuse of "jilted lovers" and it all becomes skin crawling. Masculinity issues? This is not in the spirit of the Archives, not of Madison, and I can't believe Mr.
Hanson would approve of any of it. Grow up, little boy. Reviewer: Solarkite - - December 1, Subject:? Is Mr. Hanson aware of how DarkmanWI is acting towards others?
I'm told he reads this archive message board. Are you for real? MINDWEBS is back on the air after more than 20 years and is being released to the public but instead of expressing joy, support or gratitude for that fact, you are bitching that we not posting the master files fast enough for you?
You can still hear and download the re-mastered episodes aired at the station web site! You are losing faith?!? Well, so is Michael when "fans" of his show disrespect and take advantage of him. With the new radio airings, people are going to be looking for the show and Michael wants people to get the show from him in proper quality and not be confused or miss-directed to these incredibly poor representations of his show or to sites attempting to profit off of it.
Why should he race to post his master files? Loyal listener. Would love a recommendation for an essential book on Richard Nixon, and I would be interested to hear Victor focus on him in an episode.
I found VDH in November as part of an ongoing search for more authentic news and wisdom. I listened to the Agrarian episode and came away in tears. Let me to explain. I emigrated from the UK to California over 30 years ago and in many ways have lived the American dream. I grew up in an upper middle class family but my family hit rough waters during my teens - i got a decent education but was largely out on my own; started in technology in London but was unsettled and came to California in with very little money.
Anyway, even though I now have enough money retire I have found that I am unsettled and still working. One of the things I enjoy a lot is working and sweating in my yard. I grew up in the country and used to do all kinds of chores as a kid with my parents telling me it was good for me. When VDH explained that the Greeks most respected the combination of intellect and physical labor that put me in tears - suddenly I understood who I am and why I am more comfortable hanging out with blue collar guys than at the country club.
This has made me realize that I am meant to work. Thank you VDH for exposing me to the greeks and giving me insight into my own psyche. Dear Dr. Hanson, I just wanted to take this opportunity to let you know how much I enjoy and appreciate your writings and podcast.
Your analysis and common sense approach to all things is refreshing.
