Audacious Club Legend Suspended. Most people are getting annoyed with the AFL rules committee changing rules year in, year out. It makes it hard for umpires to be consistent, it makes it hard for players to adapt for the first half of each season, and its frustrating as hell for fans.
When someone wants to change a rule in Soccer, there are international bodies that have to agree with it, national leagues have to agree with it, FIFA has to give it the ok, etc. This is similar with the process that rugby and cricket go through if new rules are implemented in those sports. To my knowledge, the AFL not being an international game has 1 committee which can change the rules.
No-one else has to agree with it, or give it their tick of approval. So basically, half a dozen clowns who think they know better than the rest of us AFL loving people, can exercise way too much power. Their carelessness in changing the rules of our game is drastically changing the way our sport is played, and this affects how enjoyable the game is to watch.
Rather than just give the AFL rules committee sole discretion at changing the laws of our game, their should be a couple of 3rd parties through which a rule must pass through before it can be implemented.
Give the AFL players association a vote on rule changes. Give the current coaches in the AFL a vote on rule changes. Then if it so blindingly obvious that a rule needs to be changed, it will be, but only after it has been passed through more than 1 faction - similar to how laws are passed in parliament. To let a handful of people exercise so much power is completely reckless. It is a great oversight, one which fans, players of every level, coaches etc should be jumping up and down about in protest.
What would it require to make these 3rd parties get a vote on rule changes? A players strike, a petition, raising awareness through media and placing pressure on the AFL - im not sure what course of action needs to be taken, but if the AFL rules committee can go on unopposed like this for years to come, our game is going to be completely unrecognisable in the near future.
KingCJ Team Captain. I agree with you, we should look back to the 80's and use the rules we had back then. I agree. It should be voted on by both the Coaches and perhaps even the Players Association, although I'm not sure about that. But definately the coaches. Once you play your first organized inter-city game with a sanctioned USAFL club that is the only club you are deemed to be eligible to play for at Nationals.
A player can play a Metro or intra-club game and this does not bind you to that club for Nationals. The rule only applies to inter-city games. Exemptions can still be applied for. Kicking in after a behind is scored USAFL clubs generally don't have the capacity to adopt the new AFL rule that allows players to kick the ball back in before the goal umpire waves their flags after a behind is scored. We are sticking to the old rule where players can not kick in until the flags are waved.
Center circle We will adopt the AFL rule where only the ruckmen can be inside the 2nd 10 m circle at a center bounce ruck contest Keeping "time on" USAFL Clubs don't have the capacity to add time on for stoppages.
Games will continue to be played without "time on". At nationals, should there be a serious injury i. Send Off Rule If a player receives a Yellow card he or she is sent off for 15 minutes and can be replaced on the field. If a player receives a Red card he or she is sent off for remainder of that game and cannot return to the field that day.
The player will also be subjected to an automatic tribunal appearance. The player may be replaced on the field, but only after 15 minutes of play. Games will be played in 2 x 20 minute halves with a 7-minute half time break. The Committee would also have an Umpires Committee that establishes the interpretations and rules across all leagues.
The AFL know you will all keep going and financing it no matter how much we complain. The AFL is the governing body of the whole sport, somehow. Section 5 Club Legend. I noticed the link to the rules is out of date Mostly the rules are the obvious ones people will click on to find a specific rule However their is a link to rules if people notice it.
